Farming
A short text in Lun Bawang about the differences between wet paddy farming in the past and wet paddy farming today. The recording was made in Buduk Nur on 30th October 2017.
good evening
I would like to tell a short story
about our elders in the past
when they first began wet paddy farming
In the year, roughly in the 1950s
our elders practiced hill farming
they didn't use spades
they used sticks
or they would split the wild palm
and they sharpened it
like a spade
that's what they use to dig the ground
and dig their wet paddy fields
during that time, it really hard
to think of our elders and how they used to live
doing their work
and farming
because they didn't have good tools
to do their work
so after a few years
they had some knowledge
they had tools that they could use
like spades
that's what they used
so that they could start their wet paddy farms
more easily than with the tools made from sticks
and the wild palm logs that they make into spades
so until this day it is easier for them to do their work
because they have better tools
so today their wet paddy farms are good
good
good because of the benefits
of using good tools to do their work
so that the future generations today
can enjoy a positive change for our Lun Bawang people
and be of benefit for farmers
so that they can have reap the benefits
our grandparents and our elders
up to our children and grandchildren today
and today
the government has really helped farmers
like the agriculture department
they help them
by providing them with tools that they use
when farming
to increase the number of farmers
so that they have a good yield
so that's a little that we can see
about the lives of our elders and grandparents before us
compared to the lifestyle today
they have come a long way
there is a big difference
between the effort of our elders
and the effort of our children and grandchildren today
so we are very happy
with how the government
and the agriculture department has helped farmers
or people who work on farms
and improved the yields of farmers
so that they can improve their lives
and bring about a positive change, a big change
and bring about a positive change, a big change for each household
