ko' ddúet amai malaan lem plueng nah
when we walked in the jungle
kai sieu ndiin nai
if it rained
loe' pi-pi lematak
there were loads of leeches
loe' pi-pi lematak
loads of leeches
naan lematak ma' anok ai, ma' tam-tam ai
there are the black leeches
naan ma' biriet-biriet ai hoo'
and there are stripey ones
ma' biriet-biriet nah, beltaa' dei nah
the stripey ones go up the body
mai si' leu arai ndeh pah
they go on your head
mai si' anok arai
or other parts of the body
et pi-pi an yeh
and it really hurts
noon taam?
what do we say?
jatal pi-pi an nok hnah
they make you really itchy
dei ma' libeu-libeu tau
the ones that get really big
an deh ntap kuet arai tau
they bite your foot
an deh mwat nah arée' arai bah
and suck your blood
tau libeu-libeu nyeh tau
when they get really big
ttoo' ndeh
they fall off
nah lematak
so that's leeches
et pi-pi
that's really bad
nah nok et ai
that's the worst
amai alam, kai pei' raah ai
in the past, when the river was high
toe', toe' pei'
we used to cross the river
buka' anok arai
we took our stuff off
nonoh ddúet arai toe' pei'
that was how we crossed the river
Mréeal kah, pei' noon tah si' nah ngaai
Pei' Mbreal over there, or whatever river it was
pei' Kelapang si' nah ngaai
Pei' Kelapang over there
naan amai toe'
that was where we crossed
kai pei' ciek, wei'
if the water was low, it was easy
kai anok ai, am
otherwise, not so much
pakai lahét amai bah toe' mai pelyaai
used rafts to cross to the other side
mai lem pei' ngaai dei
to get to the other side
nonoh ddúet amai alam
that's what we did
kai sieu wei', ok
if the weather was good, then ok
am noon abei
no problem
am tah loe' lematak
there weren't so many leeches
tapi kkot érang
but climbing uphill
berjam-jam arai kkot érang nah
it took ages to climb uphill
dei tah arai sieng ttaa' ngaai hoo'
before you reach the top
pi nah malaan arai mai ngaai pah
after that we walked for a long time over there
nonoh ddúet yeh
that's how it was
ok nonoh ddúet amai mai malaan lem plueng
so that's how we walked in the jungle
ayah, nok tah breu
oh yeah, one more thing
otak yeh ndiin hoo'
if it rained
ken awaai wét si' oong
someone would bring a raincover
nonoi ddúet yeh pah
it was like this
am men lún waan payong
people didn't have umbrellas
am lún waan plastic, anok
people didn't have plastic or whatever
memang yeh made-of aroo' éraat noon ai lah, ún hoo'
so it was made of leaves
ún noon taam dei?
what do we call those leaves?
an deh anok yeh pah
they make it up
nah tan amai bah
that's what we carry
